A viral video of Chinese tourists in a Thai restaurant is making rounds for all the wrong reasons. First, the people in it are behaving improperly. Second, they did not notice that they were being filmed. Third, nobody cared of the queuing system that should’ve been in place. The short clip shows Chinese people in a buffet frenzy using plates to shovel off shrimps. A woman was even seen collecting so much seafood that her plates were already stacked. Ramayana restaurant belied accusations that their customers behaved badly because it was their nature to do so. Rather, its management claimed that the group of tourists were in a hurry because of they were running late for their flight. In addition to this, they released a statement explaining that the pandemonium happened two years ago. Netizens slammed the Ramayana for its last-ditch effort to save face and spare their customers from further criticism. One even commented: “My colleague who just returned from Thailand told me that is still how Chinese tourists are shoveling shrimp right now, and wastage is still a severe problem.” Another wrote: “It doesn’t matter how many years ago this took place, the fact is that it did take place.”
Travel agencies are now briefing their clients on practicing “dining manners” so as to avoid a similar incident from occurring.
