PDEA probes viral video showing shabu session

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will launch an investigation on the group seen taking methamphetamine or shabu in posts that went viral on social media this past week. In a GMA News report, PDEA-NCR Regional Director Erwin Ogario said the agency would seek the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to identify the group.
It would also seek to determine whether or not the white substance seen in the posts was actually shabu. "'Pag ilegal yung ginagawa mo at pinupost mo, parang niluluto mo sarili mo sa mantika na ikaw rin yung nagprepare," Ogario said. One of the posts featured a woman biting down and kissing clear plastic baggies filled with suspicious white substances. The captions on the photographs read: "Proud To Be ADIKTUS HEHE, RAPSA". Should the PDEA prove that the substance seen in the photographs is shabu, the group might face six to eight months of mandatory rehabilitation for using drugs. Social Welfare and Development Protective Services Bureau OIC Dir. Paz Sarino said the bureau would also investigate the group's parents if any of them are found to be minors. "Para po makita natin kung meron po bang part ng neglect yung parent na ito sa batang ito," Sarino said. PDEA's latest survey showed that 92 percent of Metro Manila's barangays named drugs as a major problem in their area. The agency has reiterated that drug users were victims and that children were more susceptible to drugs. —NB, GMA News
