SA wakas, mapapanood na dito sa Pilipinas ang award-winning movie ni Epy Quizon na Unlucky Plaza. Ipapalabas ito sa mga sinehan nationwide sa Abril 20, distributed by Viva Films.
Ang Singaporean screenwriter, director and playwright na si Ken Kwek ang director ng Unlucky Plaza.
Kuwento ito ng isang OFW na nakapag-asawa ng Singaporean at nagkaroon ng anak at may maliit na kainan sa Lucky Plaza na tambayan ng mga OFW tuwing Linggo na day-off nila.
Si Epy ay si Onassis Hernandez na hindi naging maganda ang karanasan sa Singapore nang magkaroon ng food poisoning scandal sa Lucky Plaza at nadamay ang kainan niya dahil wala nang gaanong kumakain sa lugar.
Bumagsak ang negosyo ni Onassis kaya hindi na siya nakababayad ng renta ng bahay niya.
Nabiktima rin si Onassis ng financial scam kaya nawala na siya sa sarili sa rami ng mga problema at nang-hostage ng ilang tao.
Ayon kay Epy, maganda ang pagkakasulat at naiiba sa mga nagawa na niyang pelikula ang Unlucky Plaza kaya niya ito tinanggap.
Hindi naman nagkamali ang aktor dahil nanalo na nga ang direktor niyang si Ken Kwek sa Tehran Jasmine Film Festival as Best Director at naging Best Actor naman siya sa International Film Festival Manhattan.
Ipinalabas na rin ang Unlucky Plaza sa Toronto International Film Festival, napasama sa Warsaw Film Festival at nominado sa Grand Prix at sa Kolkata International Film Festival at nominated rin sa NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema).
Kuwento ni Direk Ken, naging opening film sa Singapore International Film Festival 2014 ang pelikula nila.
“I have to say that for me, I am most proud of Epy’s work. Because to me, the first and most important elements of the movie I am making tends to be workshops with actors. I work very closely with my actors. I do a lot of rehearsals and I often rescript my story according to contributions, the faces, the shape, the action of my actors.
So, when Epy won the award in Manhattan, I was very, very happy for him but not the least bit surprised.”
“For me, the award is secondary,” sabi naman ni Epy. “It’s actually the reactions of people watching it that are probably the biggest award. I always get this when someone leaves the theater and approaches me and says, ‘that was very good’ or ‘you did a good job’. That’s when I receive the biggest award.
“But of course, International Film Festival Manhattan is International Film Festival Manhattan. And when I got it, I also got the Ani ng Dangal award, and for me, who would ever thought that I was gonna get awards such as.
“Of course, napakaipokrito ko naman kung sasabihin kong hindi ako masaya. Of course, I’m very proud that I have received such an honorable award.”
Samantala, marami sa atin ang hindi nakakaalam sa mga nagaganap sa Singapore tulad ng kuwento ng Unlucky Plaza na base sa tunay na pangyayari. Kaya nagulat kami nang ikuwento ito nina Epy at Direk Ken, dahil ang pagkakaalam namin ay safest country ang Singapore kaya nga gustung-gustong namin roon.
“You know, Singapore is a safe place, right?” sabi ni Epy. “And there are events of scamming and riots and protests that mostly people don’t know because the government controlled the media.”
Sinang-ayunan din ito ni Direk Ken Kwek.
Samantala, pagkatapos ng Q and A sa presscon ng Unlucky Plaza sa Viva boardroom noong Martes ay tinanong namin ang aktor tungkol sa nalalapit na pag-aasawa ni Zsa Zsa Padilla, ang huling babae sa buhay ni Dolphy.
Ayon kay Epy ay wala naman siyang pakialam kung ano ang plano na ni Zsa Zsa sa buhay niya.
“My father is with God right now, she (Zsa Zsa) can be with where she wants to be, marrying whoever she wants.
Really, I’m living with my own life now; I have nothing to do what she wants to do with her life. If she’s happier that way then I’ll be happy for her.”
Kung iimbitahan siya sa kasal, dadalo ba ang aktor?
“Well, why not? If I’m free, why not,” tugon ni Epy.
Nabanggit ba ng Divine Diva sa mga naiwang anak ni Dolphy na lalagay na ito sa tahimik ngayong taon?
“Well, not really, and she doesn’t have to… na magpaalam, unang-una hindi naman sila kasal ng tatay ko,” katwiran ng aktor.
Baka raw kay Eric Quizon ay nabanggit ito ni Zsa Zsa.
”I’m pretty sure baka sila ni Eric, mas madalas silang mag-usap. Ako, honestly, she can do whatever she wants in her life. She wants to get married then go for it. I’ll be happy for her.”
Kapag nagkikita-kita silang magkakapatid ay hindi naman daw nila napag-uusapan ang pagpapakasal ng itinuring nilang madrasta.
