Korina takes flak for attending DA events

From his scholastic record, performance as a Cabinet member to alleged use of government vehicles for his campaigning, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte seems to be not running out of ammunition to take down the administration standard bearer, Manuel "Mar" Roxas II. On Saturday, Duterte's camp turned its attention to Roxas' wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez, whom they accused of being an "accomplice" in "creative vote-buying schemes." Duterte's camp cited Sanchez's presence in events where the Department of Agriculture (DA) handed out checks and farm equipment to farmers even if she is not a government official. "Korina is now an accomplice in a systematic shameless act that conditions the electorate to accept dole-outs in exchange for votes," said Duterte's spokesperson Peter Laviña. "Have you no sense of decency and respect for the intelligence of the Filipino people?" he asked, addressing President Benigno Aquino III and Sanchez. Laviña also said Sanchez's presence and involvement in DA events is an upfront to career DA officials who are tasked to undertake the distribution because they are accountable for these assistance to farmers. The veteran broadcaster was present in DA's distribution of around P611-million worth of agriculture funds and equipment in Tagum City. She also joined the DA in Kidapawan City in North Cotabato and Mexico town Pampanga, according to Duterte's camp. Duterte supporter, former North Cotabato governor Manny Piñol, posted several pictures including one showing Sanchez handing over a giant facsimile of a check to Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda in an El Niño summit with Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala beside her.
