Nowadays, we see people rarely help another. More so if there are many people around. This phenomenon is called the bystander effect or bystander apathy wherein the individuals do not offer help when people are present. The more people present, the less is the probability of help coming. This is observed in a video taken by a motorist in Russia.
In a 30-second clip, the woman is seen looking helpless and distressed as she walked between traffic on a Russian main road but the sad thing is, nobody thought to help her and the cars continued to rush past her.
The video was shared widely and received comments from social media users on the lack of compassion towards the woman. One user said, “All these drivers probably had blankets in their cars, but none of them offered her clothes or at least a scarf.”
One man admitted that he hesitated to help because he feared that the woman was on drugs.
